Menden in the Sauerland region is Hildegard's birthplace. The name Bölling can be found here for many generations. Her ancestors also include the Rosenberg, Ruschenburg, and Topp families, and many more, most of whom came from the area surrounding Menden. Some of them were even immortalized in photographs over 100 years ago.
